The Lady In The Van by Alan Bennett

Rehearsals at The Patch

Tuesdays and Thursdays.

A bittersweet and poignant true story about Alan Bennett and Miss Shepherd, which tells the tale of an unlikely, frustrating and moving relationship.

Mr. Bennett, a man of deeply ingrained English reserve, becomes a custodian/tenant of a rather homeless curmudgeon, Miss Shepherd, and her van.

Their relationship is, at times, fraught with difficulties relating to the inequitable demands of Miss Shepherd, which is met with the never-ending, tolerance and dry sarcasm of Mr. Bennett.

As the play unfolds, we learn more about Miss Shepherd and how she came to live in her van, alone and vulnerable, and also how over a 'temporary', 15-year stay, their relationship becomes more intertwined and touching.
