We're going to blow your socks off!
Hello all, I can’t tell you all how excited I am to be writing this blog again. It’s been a long nine months since I wrote my last one. Once again I will be putting all my thoughts down on paper for you all to read and enjoy over the next five months of rehearsals.
So let’s get started. Eleven years ago I did my last musical for act/ Centre Stage where I play the lead character called Seymour Krelborn and for the past eleven years I’ve wanted to direct and do my own version of it. That’s right ladies and gentleman if you haven’t already guessed St Nicolas Payers has agreed to allow me to stage the wonderful musical ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ in October 2015. This is one of the biggest projects I have put on for St Nic’s and it’s going to require my 21 years of experience to pull of my vision for the show.
A couple of Sundays ago we held auditions and we had 22 people battling it out for just 8 principle rolls. I’ve got to say there was so much talent on display it would have been a travesty to allow so much talent to only be in the chorus, so myself and my two produces Alison and Anj decided to make the three girls Ronnettes Chiffon and Crystal into 6 girls. They will now be collectively known as the Ronnette’s and I’ve got to say it was the right decision. The sound from those 6 girls is incredible and I can’t wait for you to hear them!!
On Thursday we had our first get together and our first read though the scrip. I think this cast is going to blow your socks off when it’s on the stage in October. But of course with all large casts we always have one or two cast members away. Unfortunately this happened to us from the offset: poor old Rob Callaby who is playing Seymour has been struck down with food poisoning and has lost over a stone in 7 days. Not good and I hope you feel better really soon. We also had another leading roll missing, Rebecca Jones who playing Audrey had a pet emergency today and I really hope your little dog feels better soon. On the plus side it gave the Ronnettes the opportunity to go though their opening number, I’m not just saying this because I’m there director but you would think they have been rehearsing together for months, there blending and harmonizing was on point. Well done girls you should all be feeling very proud of yourselves for your first rehearsal.
Well that’s me done for today make sure you tune in for next week’s instalment.
