Brass Band

Note from the Director ...

When casting a play you usually need actors, sometimes singers, occasionally musicians but a brass band? Now that is something different, and St Nics like something different, especially if it is a challenge. This has been a challenge, and I would like to thank the whole team, both on and off stage, for their ideas and hard work.

A number of people on finding out that I would be directing this production said "Oh that's the story about the brass band" or "Isn't that the film about the miners?". 'Brassed Off' is about more than miners and music. It's about people, about a community and a way of life under threat. How some only

saw a cloud while others thought they could see a silver lining. How their relationships changed as they were subjected to enormous pressures, which for some may turn out to be more than they would able to bear,

Along with the trauma, through all the ups and downs of this group there is woven a thread of real dry Yorkshire humour. I was born and grew up in a Yorkshire mining village and feel as if I know these characters - in fact I think I am related to some of them!

Please sit back and relax. I hope you enjoy meeting my relatives and neighbours.
